Because whenever it is the examination period, everyone's sleeping and eating patterns changes drastically with all the additional stress. Sophie ate like 5 small meals in a matter of like the entire morning. I sleep more than 10 hours a day and hardly eats. And when I do, I feel sick.
Everyone's been hanging out in the bar to do revision. It's surprisingly conducive. Something that really helped me to focus is the phone app Forest that's £0.79 on the iPhone and supposedly free on android phones (bugger).
So it works a little like this.
You set the time that you want to be focused for. The shortest is 30 mins. I usually go for 30 mins because that's basically my attention span when it comes to work. And you can't use your phone to do anything. If you exit the page, your tree dies. So before you can give up, they would ask you if you really want to do that and let your tree die.
Most people actually do not want their tree to die. So you are pretty much forced to be there. And if you succeed in not using your phone for that allocated period of time .... you get a tree ! And you have a bar to show your productivity.
And you can unlock new trees as you go along. This app is good for productivity because it is not just useful for study !
You could use it for work, social, rest, entertainment, sports, etc. Some people just need focus in general. Like to read and stay focused on the book instead of going into their apps etc and that's okay. Like Nat, who is a very busy vet, she uses it for both study and general focus. (Which I require as well).
This app is a gamechanger for me because I find myself more focused to do work even with my phone by my side. I don't use my laptop unless it's for music and when I do, it's because I am not planting trees. However, I think I might want to go for a longer revision session and try to increase my attention span.
Biochemistry's on Monday and no one actually feels prepared for biochemistry because .. well, no one could really be prepared for biochemistry. Thank goodness that it's only 50%. Considering the fact that I've already passed this module, I need to get a good grade in it to get a first.
Mundane things like revision aside, my week has been pretty exciting. Geocaching with Emma, Sam and Caroline on Monday/Tuesday, then a farm visit to a Biodynamic farm and then Committee training on Thursday !
So that's all the things I need to know with the contact details, web links and of course ... paperwork to fill out by 17th of June. Yikes ! Can't wait till this is alllll over. What a joke ... BECAUSE I'VE GOT AN ENTIRE YEAR AHEAD OF ME TO FILL IN THE ROLE ! I just hope to do a good job.
Oh yes, staying on the ground floor means tons of ants in spring and .... (look at that blob on the left hand corner) a huge bumble bee that kept trying to come into my window. Bumble bees are really quite huge .... And so pretty !
I'll write up about my trip to the biodynamic farm possibly later in the day when I take another break from revision. But for now .. it's back to the books I'm afraid ):
