At long last

Finally ! Getting this template to work is a lot harder than I expected but at this point in time, I am content with what I have done with the template and it's all good. Probably could have more things at my sidebar to make things more interesting but at half one in the morning, I don't really care anymore.

It's finally FRIDAY ! I had a good week but I just look forward to the weekends even though I still have work to do. Biochemistry will be the death of me ! The coursework is proving harder than expected. Sigh.

Moving on to happier thoughts ....

It was the 7th day of Chinese New Year (人日) on Wednesday, which was termed as 'everyone's birthday' because it was believed that on the 7th day, the Goddess Nv Wa (女娲) created human from mud. In Singapore and Malaysia, it is custom/tradition to 捞生/捞鱼生 or in dialect, lou hei. We toss a vegetable salad and every time we toss, we speak auspicious words such as 步步高升 (to wish for progress in career)、金玉满堂(to wish for greater wealth) etc.

But since we are in Notts and not London, the oriental marts here don't carry yusheng (鱼生) which is a real pity. But it's okay ! It's everyone's birthday so we cooked up a feast ! We had sweet and sour pork, tom yum beehoon, kimchi gyoza, fried dumplings and butter chicken ! It tasted absolutely fantastic I tell you ! We also had glutinous rice balls, taro balls and white chocolate cake as desserts !

I was obviously very pleased that I got to eat glutinous rice balls ! 汤圆 has always been a highlight of my CNY ! I wish we got the ones with fillings, especially peanut ones. But since these were all handmade/handrolled by the rest, I can't complain !

All the food ! It was good, so good ! I was absolutely stuffed after that. We spent almost 3 hours dishing out all the food ! It was quite funny when I was going to the other flat where everyone was, to grab a pan for our master chef Kyler and when I was there, everyone thought food was ready and started applauding and they were so disappointed when they realised that it wasn't.

It was a great CNY with this bunch of lovely people but it's sad that most of them won't be here next year since they are mostly exchange students.
